Job Summary
The Design Engineer (DE) is a pre-sales technical who assists the Sales team in developing technology solutions for clients. A DE should have experience conducting presentations, creating solutions architecture and design documentation, generating bills of material and statements of work, fostering both client and partner manufacturer relationships. A DE should demonstrate technical expertise in designing and architecting systems and networking solutions (both products and consulting services).
Principal Duties and
Responsibilities
- Systems and networks architecture according to established best practices
- Work with a varied range of technologies: servers, storage, virtualization, networking, security, etc.
- Production of Bills of Materials (BOM), Statements of Work (SOW), and other design documentation
- Support Sales team in all pre-sales related effort
- Promote and support client and vendor relationships
- Support business development activities
- Adhere to SLAs to Account Manager for abstract/SOW/pricing creation
Education
- B.S. or B.A. in a technical discipline required
- Technical certifications preferred
Experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft products and application, including Windows Server, Exchange, SQL, SharePoint, Active Directory
- Knowledge of Storage products, including replication, backup technologies, connectivity (Fiber Channel, FCoE, iSCSI)
- Knowledge of Virtualization products, including VMware, Citrix
- Previous experience in a pre-sales, advisory, and/or delivery role
Certifications
- VMware VTSP, VSP accreditation preferred
- EMC certification preferred
- Microsoft certification preferred
- Other industry certifications can be accepted when relevant to high-level detailed design recommendations of network systems engineering and design
Skill Requirements
- Possess excellent organizational, communication, and technical skills will be required with an emphasis on technical documentation and writing as well as presentation experience to Director-level and above positions in the development of network architecture strategies
- Have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Have the ability to work in an open team environment as well as a distributed sales environment
- Have the ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Have the ability to understand and express yourself in English
